THE SANDBOX kicks off their fall season of films with HEAVY WATER, A voyage through the eyes of the surfing community that delves deep into the history and psychology of big wave surfing.The evening benefits Surf Happens Foundation, a local non profit that brings saltwater smiles to physically, financially, and emotionally challenged children by building their confidence and sharing the healing power of the ocean.

The film will be introduced by Christian Beamish, Carpinteria writer, big-wave surfer, boatbuilder and shaper and Author of The Voyage of the Cormorant. The evening event will feature a raffle, discussion, beer and cold beverages for purchase and more! Doors at 7:00pmFilm at 7:30pm.

California Coastal Cleanup Day

The largest volunteer effort in California, Coastal Cleanup Day is our day to give back to the ocean, beaches, and creeks that make Santa Barbara County such a wonderful place to live.Get outside, enjoy nature, and and remove marine debris from our beaches and waterways.

Volunteers of all ages can participate in Surf Happens annual cleanup of our home beach, Santa Claus Lane. We will meet on the south end of the beach at "Surf Happens peak" (looks for the Surf Lessons sign pointing to the beach and follow the sand trail). 

Community service hours provided if needed!

The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by the Ocean Conservancy, which is the largest volunteer event on the planet!

2nd Annual Coffin Brothers Surf Out

Join us for the 2nd annual Coffin Brothers Surf Out presented by the Surf Happens Foundation. Conner and Parker are excited to bring their event to the sandy shoreline of Ventura Harbor, Ventura on Friday August 5 for an all ages family affair. There will be plenty of fun activities hosted by the boys sponsors on the shore including a dance contest, prize give aways, beach games and much more. Nobody loses in the first round and the goal is for everyone to go home feeling like a winner. 

Specialty feature of the event will be the Pro Expression Session featuring Conner and Parker and a host of their super hero professional friends. Winners of the youth divisions may be  teamed up with their favorite pro for a specialty tag team addition to the event.

Heaps of prizes, trophies, and a day to gather and enjoy the summer. The 2016 CBSO is a pay it forward fund raiser for the Surf Happens Foundation and offers the opportunity to introduce children to the SHF High Five and Junior Waterman Programs. Please donate today!

Lakey Peterson Keiki Bowl

The Surf Happens Foundation will host its annual Lakey Peterson Keiki Bowl, on December 19, 2015, a U14 Surf Competition and community gathering where nobody loses the first round. After the first round surfers are separated into two brackets, the main event, and a repercharge division based upon heat placings. The event is FREE to all competitors. Donations are encouraged though so the Surf Happens Foundation can continue to fund these events.

All skill levels are welcome with push in divisions available for U8 surfers. Registration for the event will be hosted online at surfhappens.com between November 10-December 10, 2015. Space is limited with priority established on first come first serve basis.

The LPLC also serves to promote the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation featuring a learn to surf class for area youth surviving cancer with special pro guests. In addition, we are promoting the Surf Happens foundation High Five program of picking up five pieces of trash every time you go to the beach and five simple solutions to reducing pollution and personal carbon handprint. The nonprofit arm of Surf Happens Surf School, the Surf Happens Foundation, a registered 501C3, funds the LPLC.

California Coastal Cleanup Day

Every year, on the third Saturday in September, people join together at sites all over California to take part in the State's largest volunteer event, California Coastal Cleanup Day. In 2013, over 58,000 volunteers removed almost 750,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from California's beaches, lakes, and waterways. Families, friends, coworkers, scout troops, school groups, service clubs, and individuals come together to celebrate and share their appreciation of California's fabulous coast and waterways. The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by the Ocean Conservancy, which is the largest volunteer event on the planet!

Coffin Brothers' Surf Out

The first annual Surf Happens Foundation, Coffin Brothers’ Surf Out will launch Saturday, August 8th 2015 at Jalama County Beach. The Coffin Brothers Surf Out is a U17 Surf Competition and community gathering where nobody loses in the first round. Age divisions include boys U 10, U12, U14, and U17, along with U17 and U13 girls divisions. After the first round, surfers are separated into two brackets, the main event, and a repercharge division based upon heat placings. There will also be a pro expression session showcasing Conner and Parker Coffin and a host of other professionals pushing the limits of the sport for the next generation. The event is Free to all competitors; donations to Surf Happens Foundation are encouraged so we can continue to put on these events free of charge. Call or email the Surf Happens office (805-966-3613, info@surfhappens.com) to register. Registration will be on a first come first served basis, beginning May 15, and closing July 25th.

Girls Incorporated of Greater Santa Barbara celebrates more than 50 years as an affiliate of an almost 150 year old national non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Through educational, research-based programs, activities and advocacy, Girls Incorporated offers girls ages 4-1/2 to 18 years opportunities to experience success as they prepare to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Girls Inc. was recently ranked among the top high-impact youth service non-profits!  Surf Happens Foundation will be partnering with Girls inc.  for the second year to host a Surf Day!
